Getting To Baden-Powell House
The venue and accommodation for the London 2000th run celebrations is Baden-Powell House. It's Kensington location is both central and convenient. Below we have attempted to provide general directions from all of the major entry points into the capital. Please contact us if you are in any doubt about how to get to the venue, or if you expect to arrive late on the Friday night.
Baden-Powell House
65-67 Queen’s Gate
London SW7 5JS
Baden-Powell house is 250 meters from Gloucester Road tube station and 500 meters from South Kensington tube station. On the Friday we will mark a 'P' trail from Gloucester Road station. All directions below will be via this station. Our tube network closes roughly between midnight and 5am. If your national or international transport gets you into the capital between these times then your best bet may be a taxi. See here for map and directions from Gloucester Road tube station.
The London Tube Network
The London public transport network is split into zones. Baden-Powell House sits between Gloucester Road and South Kensington tube stations. Both are on the District, Circle and Picadilly tube lines and are in travel-card zone 1. There are a few things to remember when using the tube network.
Firstly the escalators in tube stations are wide enough for two people. The right hand side is for those wishing to stand. The left hand side is for those who wish to walk. Do not stand on the left. Blocking the left hand side will cause annoyance to your fellow travellers, and I'm sure that no one will want that.
Secondly the tube network does not run all night. The first and last tube is dependant on the individual line and tube station, but generally the tube network starts to shut down at about midnight and resumes at about 5am. See here for First and Last tube details.
By Air
London is served by 5 international airports. There is normally a choice of travel options into London from each airport. Below we have described the fastest mode of travel to the venue via train and tube. There may be cheaper alternatives such as bus and coach or more convenient such as by taxi. The choice is yours.

- City airport is on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). Take this westbound to Canning Town.
- Change at Canning Town for a westbound Jubilee line tube to Westminster.
- At Westminster follow signs to the District and Circle lines westbound (they share the same track, so same platform for both).
- Catch any westbound District or Circle line to Gloucester Road (4 stops).
Heathrow (LHR)
London Heathrow airport started as a small World War One military airfield beside an isolated row of cottages on Hounslow Heath called Heath Row. It now has 5 terminals and handles more international passengers than any other airport in the world. All terminals are on the Picadilly line.
- Follow signs to the tube network.
- Exit at Gloucester Road.

- Follow signs to trains from the South terminal. (The ticket office is upstairs just beyond the escalators to platform level.)
- Take a north-bound service to London Victoria.

- Take the Picadilly line to Gloucester Road.
By Coach
London can be accessed by coach cheaply from all significant UK cities and from numerous locations in Ireland and continental Europe. If arriving by coach then you will probably arrive at Victoria Coach Station. From here you will need to get to Victoria tube station (approximately a 10 minute walk), then onto the District or Circle line to Gloucester Road.
There are two exits from the arrivals section of London Victoria Coach Station. If when leaving the building you see a brick wall in front of you then you are on Eccleston Place. Follow the directions below.
- Turn left and walk to the end of the road.
- Turn right and walk the short distance to Buckingham Palace Road (busy junction with traffic lights).
- Turn left and walk along the right-hand side of Buckingham Palace Road to the next corner.
- Turn right and you will see London busses and a large iron awning covering the exit from Victoria mainline station.
- The entrance to Victoria tube station is under this awning. Follow signs to the District and Circle line westbound (they share the same track here so same platform).

- Turn left and walk along the right-hand side of Buckingham Palace Road.
- Cross the first junction and walk on to the next corner.

- Catch any westbound District or Circle line tube for three stops to Gloucester Road.
Tip If the weather is not too friendly or for a more interesting walk, a shopping mall called Colonnade Walk runs parallel to Buckingham Palace Road. Nip in here and it will bring you directly onto the main concourse of Victoria mainline station. Cross the concourse and exit the mainline station opposite WH Smiths. The entrance to Victoria underground station will be straight in front of you.
By Train
London is connected to the rest of the country through thirteen mainline stations, and to continental Europe by Kings Cross St Pancras Station. Each station is connected to the tube network which can be used to get to Gloucester Road on the District and Circle lines. A map of the tube network can be accessed here.
Charing Cross
There is a tube station at Charing Cross, but for quick access to the district and circle lines we recommend that you instead make the very short walk to Embankment station.
- Exit the mainline station through the small doorway beside platform 1 and descend the steps.
- Turn right and follow the paved road down to Embankment tube station.
- Catch any westbound District or Circle line to Gloucester Road (6 stops).
Euston
- Take the Victoria line south-bound to Green Park.
- Change at Green Park for a west-bound Picadilly line service to Gloucester Road.
Kings Cross St Pancras
Kings Cross station and St Pancras station are adjoining share the same tube station.

By Car
Please do not drive to the venue. Parking at the hotel is limited and expensive and you will have difficulty finding alternative parking in the immediate area.
