About Hooray Henley H3

The Hooray Henley Hash was started back in 1985 when the London Hash decided to hold a run out at Henley Royal Regatta to coincide with the Regatta's Sunday racing. The idea was to have the run around 11:00am, then have the on on and picnic down at the barn bar. This was very succesful and has been a traditional run every year since, being particularly supported by the rowing fraternity amongst the hashers. The second year this event took place, Banker (the London GM at the time) produced comemorative T-Shirts for the occassion as it coincided with London Hash's 747th run (the logo consisted of the London Hash riding a 747 out to Henley). It was at this point this hash was dubbed the Hooray Henley Hash.

As neither West London and London Hash would include this as an official hash run (and even scheduled alternative events on the same day) Ratshit decided in 1996 that this run be a Hash club in its own right.

Surrey, Berkshire and London hash have been holding runs from Henley or near-abouts on the Sunday of the regatta for a number of years. These groups never managed to cross trails (a testament the the plentiful number of beautiful trails in and around Henley). Both Surrey and Berkshire Hash have now stopped setting trails on Henley Regatta Sunday from Henley, giving more reason for the existence of this hash.

In future this event will be advertised amongst the Berkshire, Surrey, Bicester and London hashes, who have traditionally supported the run. A suprising number of overseas visitors also turn up. Of particular note was the 1998 run where there were a total of 14 overseas visitors out of a pack of 28 runners (London Hash - normally the largest contingent had mistakedly organised an alternative event elsewhere that day).

In years to come the Hooray Henley Hash plan to hold a second event through the year, as many of the core hashers who have taken part now have closer associations with the town and surrounding areas.
