About London H3
Hashing is a cross between orienteering, jogging and socialising (with
the emphasis on the latter). The first Hash club started in Kuala Lumpur
in the mid Thirties, and made it to these shores in the late Seventies.
The London Hash started in 1980 and have already done over 1000 runs all
over the greater London area. The runs are weekly on alternate Saturdays/Sundays
at 11.00 (or 12:00) during winter, and switch to Monday evenings (the traditional
night for the hash to run off those hard earned hang-overs) at 19.00 during
the summer months. A typical trail is between 5 and 8 km., taking just
over an hour and usually incorporates any parkland, places of interest
that are near that week's venue. The runs always start from a train station
or underground station somewhere in the greater London area. Hashers usually
turn up changed ready to run, but people can change at the designated day's
pub (the ON INN) which plays an important role in each hash meet.Hashing
is a very international activity (witness the many web pages around the
world), and each week can see the odd visitor turning up unannounced at
that week's venue. The average pack size varies between 20-30 in winter
to 80-90 in summer (though on a sunny winter's morning everyone comes out
of the woodwork).
